Toulouse workshop about cardboard recycling techniques
Digijeunes, member of the Trash to Treasure consortium, invited a group of young people from the Toulouse Local Mission to learn about cardboard recycling techniques. The aim was to create pieces for a tangram set and to build a stool out of recycled cardboard.
We made a pulp from shredded cardboard, then used moulds to shape the tangram pieces and dry them in the microwave. Using larger 3D-printed moulds, we even created containers from recycled cardboard.
For the stool, we first created thick sheets of cardboard using a flour-and-water-based glue. We then cut them out using a laser cutter and assembled them, reinforcing all the joints with papier-mâché.
The workshops took place as part of the Erasmus+ ‘Trash to Treasure’ project, which aims to enable groups of young people based in France, Belgium, Spain and Italy to discover careers in the circular economy through local and international activities, such as exchanges abroad.
