Last month, it finaly happened! Together with 50 wonderful people, we officially opened our brand-new Plastic Lab. But let's be clear: this did not happen in an instant. It's the results of years of dedication, perseverance and collaboration.
What does Precious Plastic mean?
At the heart of our lab lies the global Precious Plastic initiative – an open-source movement that empowers communities around the world to recycle plastic locally. Precious Plastic challenges the idea that plastic is waste. Instead, it treats plastic as a valuable material that can be reshaped, reused, and given new life.
So we ask ourselves: Is our plastic not, in fact, precious?
What is the Plastic Lab?
The Plastic Lab is open for makers, creatives, and curious minds. Here, you can:
Recycle plastic yourself
Experiment with Precious Plastic machines
Take part in or host workshops
Bring your own project ideas to life using recycled materials
Rethink how we deal with waste
Whether you’re a designer, local resident, student, or hands-on builder – the lab is a space for experimentation, collaboration, and circular thinking.
An opening to remember
The official opening on 27 June 2025 was a moment of celebration. More than fifty people came together to mark this new beginning – a community of doers, dreamers, and makers. There was live demonstrations, recycled plastic objects, a big BBQ and above all: a shared sense of pride.
