A biodigester to transform waste into clean biogas
Keboswa Market is a busy community market located in rural Kisumu County. There are not enough public toilets, and many food vendors (mostly young women) still rely on firewood for cooking in poor and unhealthy working conditions. Inspired by the methodologies developed during the Erasmus Plus project Trash to Treasure, Digijeunes started to research possible options.
Our proposed solution is to construct new public toilets connected to a biodigester that will transform human and organic waste into clean biogas. This biogas will then be used to supply a new cooking area for local vendors.
This will improve sanitation, provide at least five food vendors with affordable clean energy, reduce air pollution and help protect up to 26,000 m² of forest per year by reducing the need for firewood.
